Desert landscapes ask for a different quality of attention than any other terrain in this collection. The absence of density (fewer trees, less water, minimal vertical interruption) creates a visual environment where the eye has nowhere to hide and nothing to rush toward. What remains is light, space, and the particular silence of a landscape that has been shaped by subtraction rather than accumulation. These images were made within that openness, in environments where stillness is not incidental but structural, built into the terrain itself.
Many of these works were made close to home, in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona, with others from Monument Valley, the Grand Canyon, the slot canyons of Antelope Canyon, and the sandstone country of Utah and New Mexico. Their warm, open palettes suit rooms with natural materials such as wood, stone, clay, and linen, and their spareness sits well in minimal interiors, where a single work can hold a wall on its own. Many are panoramic, well suited to long walls, while the slot canyon works are vertical, suited to narrower spaces.
