Asia

Asia carries a different kind of quiet than the western landscapes in this collection. In Japan and across Southeast Asia, stillness is not the absence of human presence but something woven into it, expressed through the geometry of a temple garden, the filtered light of a bamboo forest, the particular calm of coastal water at the edge of a built environment. These are landscapes and places where human culture and natural environment have been in conversation for centuries, and that conversation has produced spaces with a quality of intentional calm that feels designed rather than accidental. These images were made within that tradition of intentional space, and they reflect it.
