Beneath the Roar
Milford Sound, New Zealand
ARTIST’S STORY
Most people photograph waterfalls from a distance. They find the angle that captures the full drop, the elegant cascade, the postcard version of power made beautiful and safe. I understand that instinct. But it was never the view that interested me most.
This was taken from a boat at the base of Stirling Falls in Milford Sound, New Zealand, one of the most dramatically alive places on earth. Milford Sound is known for its waterfalls, sheer cliffs, and the kind of scale that makes you reconsider your assumptions about your own size. What makes Stirling Falls unusual is what the boats do there. They do not stop at a respectful distance. They drive directly into it.
When the bow pushed under the fall, the sound became total. Mist filled everything. The camera was soaked within seconds. And at the center of the chaos was that column of white light descending through the spray, blazing against the dark canyon walls on either side, looking less like water and more like something that had traveled a long way to arrive at this exact point.
We talk about stress as noise, as the accumulation of demands and interruptions that crowd the mind until there is no room left for clear thought or genuine rest. What I have found, both in the research and in my own experience behind the lens, is that certain encounters with nature do not reduce the noise gradually. They replace it entirely. They overwhelm the system so completely that something in you simply stops fighting and lets go.
That is what Stirling Falls does. It does not ask you to relax. It does not offer gentle suggestion. It simply arrives with such totality that resistance becomes irrelevant.
Beneath the Roar is not a quiet image. But it leads somewhere quiet. Sometimes the path to stillness runs directly through the thing that undoes you.
Each image is released in limited editions, with edition size set by presentation and scale, so the most substantial works remain the most rare.

Italian Roma Frame with TRULIFE® Acrylic | Museum Framed

Collector's Choice
Collector Edition of 25 · Lumachrome TruLife Acrylic · Roma Elite Frame
This is the complete expression of the work. The image, the materials, and the frame exist not as separate components assembled for presentation but as a unified object designed to change how a room feels to be in.
The foundation is Lumachrome TruLife® Acrylic, a chromogenic photographic medium that renders color, depth, and tonal range with a fidelity that conventional printing cannot approach. Light interacts with the image surface in a way that gives the work an inner presence, a quality of being illuminated from within.
The handcrafted Italian wood frame by ROMA Moulding is finished with a customizable linen liner selected to complement each image without competing with it. The choice of natural materials is not a finishing detail. It is a continuation of the work's intention.
The liner and frame add approximately fourteen inches to the finished dimensions and should be considered when planning wall placement. Lumachrome TruLife® Acrylic carries a lifetime guarantee against fading and deterioration under normal display conditions.
If your space calls for dimensions beyond those listed, that conversation is always welcome before an order is placed.
Collector Edition of 25 Each image exists as twenty five prints in this presentation, worldwide. When the edition is filled, it closes permanently.
TruLife® Acrylic Fine Art Prints | Gallery Float Mount

Signature Edition
Signature Edition of 50 · Lumachrome TruLife Acrylic · Gallery Float Mount
Some images do not need a frame. They need only a wall and the space to be fully themselves.
The Gallery Float Mount presents the work in its most direct form, face-mounted to Lumachrome TruLife® Acrylic and suspended approximately one inch from the wall. There is no frame to mediate between the image and the room. The clean acrylic edge becomes an architectural element in its own right.
Lumachrome TruLife® renders color, depth, and tonal range with a fidelity that conventional printing cannot approach. Under halogen lighting the work responds with a radiant, glowing quality, as though the landscape itself were the source of the light rather than its subject. The acrylic is UV-resistant, anti-reflective, and scratch-resistant, and carries a lifetime guarantee against fading and deterioration under normal display conditions.
For collectors drawn to the contemporary and the architectural, or for institutional environments where a frameless presence is the right formal choice, this is the presentation that allows the psychological work of the image to operate without interruption.
Free shipping is included within the contiguous United States. Please allow three to four weeks for production and delivery. For international inquiries, please use the contact page.
If none of the sizes listed suit your space precisely, that conversation is always welcome before an order is placed.
