The Apparition

Milford Sound, New Zealand

ARTIST’S STORY

Milford Sound does not reveal itself the same way twice. Each visit is governed by its own weather, its own light, its own mood. On this particular day, Stirling Falls was running harder than I had ever seen it. A storm had passed through the sound overnight, and the mountain was still releasing everything it had collected.

The boat pushed toward the base of the falls as it always does, but this time the experience was different. The volume was greater, the mist thicker, the darkness at the canyon walls deeper. The falls were not performing. They were purging.

I raised the camera and began shooting into the chaos, not entirely sure what I was capturing. It was only later, reviewing the images, that I saw it. There in the center of the cascade, shaped by the falling water and the mist and whatever light had managed to find its way into that dark canyon, was a figure. Arms outstretched. Present. Unmistakable.

I have no explanation for it. I am not sure I want one.

What I do know is that the natural world has always carried more than we can measure. The research that grounds my work speaks to restoration, attention, and the psychological benefits of nature exposure. But science has always been more comfortable with what nature does to us than with what nature might actually be. Some images live at that edge. This one does not step back from it.

At the base of the falls, in the heart of the storm's aftermath, something appeared in the water. Whether it was light, or memory, or simply what happens when enormous forces collide in a dark place, I cannot say.

The Apparition asks you to decide for yourself.

Collector's Choice

Collector Edition of 25 · Lumachrome TruLife Acrylic · Roma Elite Frame

This is the complete expression of the work. The image, the materials, and the frame exist not as separate components assembled for presentation but as a unified object designed to change how a room feels to be in.

The foundation is Lumachrome TruLife® Acrylic, a chromogenic photographic medium that renders color, depth, and tonal range with a fidelity that conventional printing cannot approach. Light interacts with the image surface in a way that gives the work an inner presence, a quality of being illuminated from within.

The handcrafted Italian wood frame by ROMA Moulding is finished with a customizable linen liner selected to complement each image without competing with it. The choice of natural materials is not a finishing detail. It is a continuation of the work's intention.

The liner and frame add approximately fourteen inches to the finished dimensions and should be considered when planning wall placement. Lumachrome TruLife® Acrylic carries a lifetime guarantee against fading and deterioration under normal display conditions.

If your space calls for dimensions beyond those listed, that conversation is always welcome before an order is placed.

Collector Edition of 25   Each image exists as twenty five prints in this presentation, worldwide. When the edition is filled, it closes permanently.

Signature Edition

Signature Edition of 50 · Lumachrome TruLife Acrylic · Gallery Float Mount

Some images do not need a frame. They need only a wall and the space to be fully themselves.

The Gallery Float Mount presents the work in its most direct form, face-mounted to Lumachrome TruLife® Acrylic and suspended approximately one inch from the wall. There is no frame to mediate between the image and the room. The clean acrylic edge becomes an architectural element in its own right.

Lumachrome TruLife® renders color, depth, and tonal range with a fidelity that conventional printing cannot approach. Under halogen lighting the work responds with a radiant, glowing quality, as though the landscape itself were the source of the light rather than its subject. The acrylic is UV-resistant, anti-reflective, and scratch-resistant, and carries a lifetime guarantee against fading and deterioration under normal display conditions.

For collectors drawn to the contemporary and the architectural, or for institutional environments where a frameless presence is the right formal choice, this is the presentation that allows the psychological work of the image to operate without interruption.

Free shipping is included within the contiguous United States. Please allow three to four weeks for production and delivery. For international inquiries, please use the contact page.

If none of the sizes listed suit your space precisely, that conversation is always welcome before an order is placed.
